Far Away From Here
Wouldn't you like to be able to go anywhere in the world in the blink of an eye? That's what happens with the Jumpers. So long as they have been to the place or seen a picture, a Jumper has the ability to "jump" there just by thinking of the place. However, there are those that feel that Jumpers are abominations and should not have those powers. These people are known as the Paladin. There has been a war going on between the Jumpers and the Paladin for hundreds of years–since the Middle Ages.[/size]
One battle has been going on for around ten years. Roland Cox, one of the best Paladin, has been hunting David Rice, a Jumper, since he robbed a bank ten years ago. Well, David met another Jumper named Griffin. They teamed up to save David's true love Millie from Roland, but when Griffin tried to kill Roland and his team–which would have in turn killed Millie–David left Griffin for dead tangled in some power lines. He captured Roland and left him stranded in the Grand Canyon.
Of course, there is a back story to everyone. David's father was killed by Roland, as were Griffin's parents. David's own mother was a Paladin. She abandoned him when he was just five. But all that is another story.
It’s two years after David Rice abandoned Roland Cox in the Grand Canyon. David found out his mother, Mary, was a Paladin, and she had a new family. Though it broke David’s heart, he learned to accept his family was broken.
Through all of his hard times, David always had Millie. They soon were married and moved to David’s old home in Ann Arbor, which they refurbished to its former glory. Millie was found unable to have children, so David and Millie adopted two beautiful children, Zeke and Christy.
Meanwhile, Mary and her new husband Trae were living contentedly in Chicago with their daughter Sophie. At the time, she was living between home and school at Chicago University, studying theater. Sophie was attacked by a classmate angered that she didn’t get a part that Sophie did, so Sophie jumped. Of course Mary discovered it and quickly ran off again, not wanting to kill her own child.
Sophie found out the history between Mary and David, shocked at how things played out. She contacted David, who jumped to her and brought her home, knowing that Millie and his family would accept her with open arms.
Christy, it seemed, had Paladin blood in her lineage. It finally took over and she brutally attacked David and Sophie before running away to find help. As Fortune–or Misfortune, depending on one’s perspective–would have it, Roland, the Paladin serial killer, found a frightened Christy and started training her to be a proper Paladin.
As these horrid events piled up, an old “friend” of David’s came back. Griffin, the Paladin hunter, wasn’t quite dead even though David had left him trapped in those power lines. He still had a score to settle with both Roland and David, and Griffin wasn’t using any restraint this time.
So as all these old relationships pile up, David’s family is starting to feel a little pressured. When these Paladin, Jumpers, and humans all meet up, what will happen this time? Who will win? One thing is for sure: everyone will want to jump FAR AWAY FROM HERE.
