They call it the King's Sport because only kings could afford to play. The finest blood was brought from the East, imported into existing lines in vain efforts to create the fastest horse. Only Kings and rich men could afford the expensive horseflesh and they enjoyed their hold on the world's oldest sport.
Then the sport came to America, a land without kings. Horse Racing found fertile ground to grow, quickly making America the place to race. Dozens of famous horses have come from America, their names written in stone, in blood and in the hearts of millions. Names like War Admrial, Seabiscuit, Secretariat, Ruffian, Affirmed, Smarty Jones, and Big Brown echo in our ears every year.
